"Sørlandet"
SØRLANDET is not a passenger ship. You embark as a "trainee"and you take part in all duties on board under guidens and supervision of our crew, from "look-out" and "helmsman" to "galley duty.
Your dream comes through: You will be helmsman on board at Tall Ship, with 1,200 square metres, dispersed on 27 sails. It is not possible to come closer to the nature!
All trainees will be assigned quarter on the orlop deck, a large "common room" nicely furnished with fixed bunks. Bring with you a sleeping bag and a pillow sheet.
All meals are included in the price. The ship has a small shop selling softdrinks and chocolates along with souvenirs.
Can you participate?
Everyone can participate on a trip with the SØRLANDET. No previous sailing experience is required. Detailed instruction will be given on board. . People of all ages between 15 and 70, of both sexes and all nationalities, are welcome to participate.
Preparation.
When the trip is paid for, we shall send you our hand book "Welcome Aboard", which is in both Norwegian and English. This will give you information about practical issues and safety rutines on board, together with a list of key words and phrases used on board. Closer to your departure you will receive information where to find the ship, etc.
Travel.
Travel to and from the ship is your own responsibility. You should plan your journey so that you can be on board in good time, and no later than one hour before the scheduled departure. If you are unsure of the best way to travel, the Administration office can advise you.
Wind and weather conditions can affect the vessel's schedule, so it is difficult for the SØRLANDET to plan a precise itinerary. Scheduled arrival times are some time subject to delay, so you should allow a generous margin when planning your journey home. If the ship is not required for other duties at the time of your arrival or departure, you can book an extra night on board. If you are interested in doing so, please contact the Administration office or enquire on board before signing off.
Travel insurance.
Trainees are insured only for accidents attributable to faults with the vessel or to errors or negligence on the part of the crew.
You must arrange for your own travel insurance to cover any expenses in the event of an accident, illness, hospitalization, or repatriation to home on health grounds.
