"Sørlandet" on a special commission to New York in 1986

Sørlandet participated in the 100 years jubilee for The Statue of Liberty in 1986. A voyage which took 30 days of sailing each way. On the voyage from Norway to New York she carried on board a coppery stone as a special gift to the USA.

The massage on the stone is:

"This stone from the mine that produced the copper in The Statue of Liberty was brought with the sailing ship "Sørlandet" as a gift to The United States of America from the citiziens of Karmøy, Norway. July 4, 1986."

The stone is now placed next to The Statue of Liberty which is a gift from France and it`s produced on coppery stone from Karmøy.

Master on the "Sørlandet" during this trip was Captein Ants Lepson who also has given us the pictures which he took on his visit to New York in 2005. We would like to give our thanks to the captain for not letting us forget this happening.
